A permanent home to share my family collection of Drum Corps publications. My Mom started this collection in the 40s. This is my labor of love. I hope you all enjoy these articles / scores / pictures... as much as we have over the decades. History must be preserved. This is my lil corner / contribution to the drum corps community (online). Canadian Preview 6-5-63
By Don J. Mountford
DCN June 5, 1963 issue
Toronto, Ontario - With the contest season almost here I want to bring you up to date on some of the more recent happenings up here in Canada, a little of the general news and some lists of music of the corps. On to music:
YORK LIONS - Off the line with "King of Kings" into "The World Is Waiting For The Sunrise" "Lawrence" and "Whispering". Concert of "Five Foot Two" and colour presentation of "Valiant Years" "Abide With Me" and "Oh Canada". Exiting to "In The Still Of The Night". This corps is looking for parades, exhibitions and contests for the Jr. "B" circuit, that is a show 7 - 9 minutes long. Anyone interested?? Let me know.
DE LA SALLE - "March Of The Charioteers," "Nice 'N Easy" Concert of ???????, Pres, of "Walk Hand In Hand," and exit to "Till There Was You". Sounds like a real bang-up show this year!!!!!
"Sis" Baxter of the Eau Claire Boys in Wisconsin tells me that this Corps is really going places this year with an all new show, drill and new uniforms for the guard. Then Terrie Butterfield of the Belles of St. Mary's from Rhinelander, Wisc., reports that they have a horn line of 32, 8 percussion, and a colour guard of 10. Big things planned also for this Corps in '63.
In my last column I mentioned that the Sarnia SERTOMANAIRES were definitely going Jr. "B" this year up here in Canada. Since that time I have found out that they will be in the Jr. "A" circuit. So sorry, SERTOMANAIRES, for the big goof. Will try to do better next time.
Big plans for the "Miss Junior International" Beauty Contest being sponsored by the TORONTO OPTIMISTS in conjunction with the Jr. Internationals being held here in Toronto on June 8th at Varsity Stadium. Any Canadian Corps in the Toronto area that wishes to send a representative get in touch with Don Daber, for further particulars.
Good luck to the TORONTO OPTIMISTS, LES DIPLOMATES and GRENADIERS in the Preview of Champions. You are Canada's representatives to this big one and we will all have our fingers crossed that night of May 26th.
Rick Seager tells me that the VISCOUNTS out in Hamilton have really big plans for the N.Y. - Canadians this year. Beauty Contest, Fireworks, Parade, just all the trimmings to go with this one. Will have more for you at a later date.
Well, folks I think that this is about it for this time so will close. Write when you can, your letters are my columns.
