Marion Cadets Win Lima Contest
By Wayne Willis
DCN 5-22-63 issue
LIMA, Ohio, April 27 - The Marion Cadets won their first 1963 standstill contest here tonight in a Midwest Circuit meet. Although they are not members of the Circuit, the Cadets were invited to compete when 3 corps failed to appear.
First corps on was the Bluffton, Indiana "Pirates," who sounded much improved over last year. They were followed by Marion with their 1963 repertoire and the Toledo Demons in a terrific powerhouse show with an eight-man percussion section including two rudimental bass drums. Lima Blue Devils, with a greatly improved horn line, were fourth. We liked the tones produced by their very young soprano soloist.
As this was a standstill, scores were based on 80 instead of a hundred and were awarded as follows:
1. Marion Cadets ...................... 73.2
2. Maumee Toledo Demons .... 71.9
3. Lima Blue Devils .................. 61.0
4. Bluffton Pirates ..................... 58.2
