OH, the memories. Parades in Asbury Park were large and often.
I was suprised about the outcome on this. I had thought the Hilltoppers were going to win.
The Pointers were a nice local Corps that wore Black pantsm White satin top with a diangle Orange stripe. Orange comerbun. White shako with orange plume, and white bucks.
The Hilltoppers wore Cadet style uniforms. The top of a dark Red (almost marrone) with White and Gold trimmings. Pants were Gray. Shakos of Gray and I think Redish color plumes.
The Shoreliners were the same uniforms as Pointers BUT, in Red White and Black.
(TwinLite) Lancers wore Green White and Blake. A.P. Boys Club wore Red White and Blue with some Gold trimmings. Jamesburg was Red and White. The Coppertones wore Oange colored tops with a Black diagnal stripe and Black pants. Black shakos with Orange plumes. They also did not use Chrome plated horns. That gave a little different sound to the horn line.(Nice)
Asbury Park HS almost always beat Neptune. (and I mean in everything) Asbury Park HS had about 3,000 students. Back then there were over 900 in my Senior Class. (which by the way, had members of both Blessed Sacrament, and St. Lucy's Cadets in it). Other High School Bands were Manasquan HS, Brick Township HS, Shore Regional HS.
Also in the parade but not competeing were Ft. Monmouth Army Base Band, Lakehurst Navy Base Band, and a few Elks, Shiners and Fire Department Bands. Not to mention a few Bag Pipe units.
Like I said. Large and often!
Tommy
